About Martin
Although coming from a musical family - Dad sang and played the piano; Mum singing for the troops in London during WWII and a brother singing in cabaret in Spain for years, I had no idea I would be destined for a singing career, having only sung in the car or bath! I had performed on stage and in cabaret dancing with a dance troupe and also taught line dancing for four years.
It was in my line dancing class that I met my wife, Anne. I wanted to do something different and romantic at our wedding in March '07 and decided I wanted to sing to her. To make sure I didn't make a fool of myself, I booked some lessons with a singing coach, who, after hearing me sing, said I was good enough to become professional.
Since then I have performed at private functions and in hotels on the Isle of Wight and also at holiday venues on the mainland. Although having wide musical tastes, my main love is swing music, especially the Rat Pack era. My favourite artiste and the person I would love to emulate is Michael Bublé. The quality of his songs and arrangements are incredible. They bring the great old standard songs of those bygone days up to date, but still manage to keep the feel of the song right. It seems ironic looking back, that the songs I am now performing are the same songs I have been singing and listening to all my life. I have been performing my act in my head for the last 25 years + but didn’t realise it. Here’s looking forward to the next 25 years!
